My Last List…

I am done going around in circles. Circles are round with no end to them. It’s like going through your day like a run on sentence. You tell yourself you want change, but you are not doing anything to make that happen. You dream of a big picture  and have an idea on how to turn that picture into reality.

It starts off being honest with yourself. You know you have no reason to be afraid.

Psalms 23:4 NIV  [4] Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV [6] Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”  https://bible.com/bible/111/deu.31.6.NIV

I am taking a closer look at who I am and who I know I can be. I am going into a new stage in my life my way. I am in charge of my tomorrow, if I have a tomorrow, because no one knows when we will take our last breath. The only thing we can do is live our life the best way we can.

I enjoy crocheting. The idea of turning a skein of yarn into  blankets, hats, scarves, and countless other objects. I want to learn to do more, because I can imagine crochet items like curtains, rugs, dresses, and the list goes on.

People are all amazed when  they see me crocheting and I just smile and say thank you when I get a compliment on whatever I am working on. There have  been a few people who asked me to teach them how to crochet. I never thought about it, but I agreed.

Then reality hit me. Teaching and doing are two different things. I’ve watched crochet tutorials on youtube. There are a lot I can follow and a lot I cannot. There are some with words and music playing in the background. Those are okay, but sometimes the words are too small to read across the screen. There are a few that are not in English or ones with a heavy accent and I still cannot understand what is being said.

The videos I dislike the most are the ones that don’t show what they are doing, just talking about them, and That’s not doing me any good. If I see a picture, I want to learn how to do it, and what’s the point of posting a video if you are not going to show how it’s done.

I came across this video and…..

How to Become a Certified Crochet Instructor

Elise Rose Crochet   Sep 24, 2019  #crocheting #crochet #howtocrochet Becoming a Certified Crochet Instructor takes time and effort, but it is totally worth it. In this video, I share the details of my journey, why you might want to enroll, and the costs involved. {}

I asked Google a question about getting a certificate to teach crochet and I clicked on this…..

{} https://americancrochetassociation.blog/ Crochet Certification – Everything You Need to Know to Start Teaching | Stop Scrolling, Start Learning {}

It is true you don’t need to have a certificate to teach crochet or knitting, but I would like to teach my craft with a better understanding and clear enough for others to follow along. I would like to prove one can crochet anywhere and it isn’t hard to do.

I have taken the first steps. Yes, I have started a new list and I WILL  FOLLOW THROUGH this time. THIS WILL BE MY LAST LIST. I have started with a monthly planner. Well, it’s time to crochet.

My Cotton Candy Shawl

My eyes want to close, but my mind keeps adding more things I want and need to do. There just isn’t enough time in a day to do everything I want to do. I want to start filling my new book with each new project.

I wanted to make a cotton candy shawl and a butterfly throw. I thought that was just an idea, but when I was in Hobby Lobby I saw these two yarns.

I found a few crochet shawl ideas on youtube and there were a few I liked. This is the one I chose. If you like it, try it. I have one more skein of yarn to go and mine will be done.

My Next Chapter..

People are talking about shopping at Black owned businesses, but what about shopping at a Christian business?

I shop, never really thinking about the company or their background. I only saw the deals and if I can get to it by the bus.

Then you hear what some big companies are doing and without realizing it, these companies are hiding a dark side, and it makes you start having second thoughts about shopping there.

I never really shopped at Hobby Lobby. The one time I was there, I kind of just walked through, because I didn’t see any brand names I knew.

I keep telling myself I should try something new, but yarn costs too much to be taking a chance on. Then by chance someone gave me some yarn and to my surprise most of it came from Hobby Lobby.

I wish I had kept the wrapping, because this yarn reminded me of Caron’s simply soft yarn. I really enjoyed working with it. Yes, it is yarn from Hobby Lobby.

I also decided I am going to take a chance on my gift. I am not the best person who knows how to crochet, but I LOVE doing it. It is about time I start getting paid for what I enjoy doing.

I will help others crochet too, because I am tired of hearing:

  • I can’t crochet
  • It’s too hard to crochet
  • I use to do it, but have no time now

I want to prove everyone wrong and show them how to enjoy crocheting a little at a time. I found out that Hobby Lobby is a Christian company, so I am going to add this store to my shopping list. I can’t wait to see my next chapter.

My New Stitch

I love to crochet. There’s no surprise there. If I am sitting, most likely I am crocheting.  My favorite stitch is the granny square. Although I don’t like stitching them together. I will post a few videos from my favorite crafters that show how to crochet granny squares.
I was working on my red blanket (late last night).  I had an idea in my head, but somehow it wasn’t coming out as I thought it would. I did a few different stitches into one and will end it with a simple granny stitch until there isn’t any yarn left. Oh, this is the fourth design for these colors. I decided to not frog the last project, turning it into a few balls of yarn, and just keep crocheting.

I found a better way to start my granny square… A standing single stitch takes the small bump away.  I came up with this thought last night, because there was little light in my room. (Oh, I do not recommend crocheting with only light coming from the TV) When I got to a corner, I could barely see that third stitch, so when I turned my project around and was getting ready to make that slip stitch. I stopped. I was thinking can I do a standing crochet stitch? I was way too tired to keep thinking about this, so I just did it. I was so happy, because it worked.

** sidenote: I tried to find a video of a standing crochet stitch and there are way too many. I saved some, but they are lost in my group list as well.

I didn’t see what I did, so maybe it wasn’t a standing stitch after all. No, it was my standing stitch, and one day I will start my own YouTube channel….

My standing stitch goes like this: a single stitch, turned, another single stitch, I only pulled through one stitch, now there is two stitches on my hook, I pulled through one stitch, and now there are two stitches left, pulling through those two to make the height of a double crochet stitch.

I had to make myself stop adding some of my favorite granny squares and when I do stitch my squares together, I did Ms. Lyza Walters’ stitch.

I am so over typing about crocheting, because I really want to crochet in the daytime with enough light to see every stitch.
